Individual Therapy- Adults

It's about being effective...

Using techniques informed from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic principles, and Narrative Counseling, I have cultivated a therapeutic style that is engaging, innovative, and directive. The emphasis is on change. Clearly, if change was easy, you would have already done it. The goal is to make changes that are effective, whether they be in relationships, career, phase of life, or your own sense of self. Remember, the only true definition of "insanity" is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

Individual Therapy- Adolescents

Teens are the focus, but parents not forgotten...

Adolescence can be a very tumultuous period in a persons life. Teens feel pressure to perform academically, socially, and/or athletically, all while trying to cultivate their own personality and developing independence. As with adults, looking at the way we interact with the world and making effective changes is a central component of my work with adolescent clients. I also make it a point to meet with parents to discuss their daughters/sons care, and to make sure they are engaged and informed as to how best support their teenager.

Parent Coaching

Parenting is learning to hear what your child does not always speak...

No matter the age of your daughter or son, your child will always remain just that… your child. Perhaps you have a child whose needs, issues and/or sensitivities impact your whole family, causing excessive stress or disharmony? Maybe you are struggling with parenting more broadly; trying to balance parenting with other responsibilities and aspects of your life?

Parent Coaching is not therapy; there is no diagnosis. Coaching is designed to help you better understand your children, learn to connect and set limits in positive ways, and more effectively manage specific problems. Your child will not be directly involved.

Parent Coaching with Dr. Wetter provides a protected space in which to share what is happening, and learn skills, strategies, and new perspectives about challenges that are unique to your family dynamic.

Couples Therapy

A specific plan and structure...

"Venting” about all the things your partner says or does that irritates you or weakens the relationship rarely does anything to improve a relationship. In fact, it can actually make things worse. In working with couples, married or not, having an extended initial consultation is critical. The key to to understand the nature and history of the relationship, and what brought you to your current circumstance. I also make it a point to also meet with partners individually, in order to discover who they are as individuals. It is critical to learn about each person’s family history, their unique characteristics, as well as other key factors that will impact our work together on your relationship. Simply put: when working with a couple, I have 3 clients: you, your partner, and the relationship.
